Shearith Israel’s Three Sets of Myer Myers Rimonim:

A Special Friday Night Lights Talk & Exhibit

Myer Myers was the preeminent Jewish silversmith of the colonial era. His rimonim, or Torah finials, are much admired by experts and collectors of American Judaica. They were, and remain, a testament to living American Judaism. Myer Myers was also a congregant of Shearith Israel, serving as our Parnas several times.

Shearith Israel owns and cares for three sets of Myer Myers rimonim. Recently, each of our three sets has been on loan at the New-York Historical Society, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and at the Touro Synagogue. However, each set returns home to Shearith Israel for their intended ritual use. In 2019, in celebration of our 365th Year of Years Celebration, we brought all three sets back for ritual use together as well as in exhibition at a special capstone event.

This year, we will again be bringing all three sets home for ritual use throughout the 5783 High Holidays season. And, before re-loaning them, we will be exhibiting them as part of a very special Friday Night Lights talk by Rabbi Soloveichik.
