SUMMARY:Tisha B'Ab Services & Lecture 5782
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for a Meaningful Tisha B'Ab\nSaturday night\, August 5
 - Register here\nSunday\, August 6\nIn Person in the Main Sanctuary for va
ccinated participants\nSee below for the full Tisha B'Ab schedule\n\nRabbi
Soloveichik's Tisha B'Ab lecture will follow the reading of Eikha on Satu
rday night\, August 5.\nShearith Israel's uniquely dramatic service tells
of the tragedy of the destruction and sings the dirges of mourning for the
Temple. Our Spanish &amp\; Portuguese service's rich musical tradition fo
r the service on this day may go back to the time of the Spanish Expulsion
\, the anniversary of which is also observed on this date.\nFor Tisha B'Ab
\, the Reader's Desk and Holy Ark are draped in black. The evening and mor
ning services are conducted from a special table - also draped in black -
rather than from the Reader's Desk. The synagogue lights are dimmed\, so t
hat congregants follow services with small flashlights. Our morning Kinot
service also features beautiful somber melodies. You can preview the litur
gy and melodies on our website.\nPlease join us to share in this powerful
 experience.\n\n\n\n\nTisha B'Ab Schedule\nEve of the Fast\, Saturday\, Aug

the month of Ab falls on Sunday\, so that Shabbat Hazon becomes the Eve o
f the Fast of Ab. Saturday afternoon Minha is held early at 3:30 pm\, so t
hat all may go home to eat their Third Meal at suppertime and begin their
fast by sunset (8:07)\, concluding Sabbath (at 8:47\, by reciting "barukh
hamabdil ben kodesh lehol") and returning to the synagogue for the Motza'e
Shabbat/Fast of Ab Arbit Service\, which is called for 9:10 pm. The servi
ce begins on this occasion with the hazzan reciting the blessing "bore meo
re haesh." On Sunday evening\, the fast is concluded with habdala over a c
up of wine\, without spices and without a candle.
