Thanksgiving at Shearith Israel

Experience our unique Thanksgiving tradition. Begin with morning services where we chant several chapters of Psalms—parts of the Hallel. Service participants are welcome to join us on the Portico for a parade viewing with hot chocolate and pastries.

Join us and our UWS faith partners this Thanksgiving for a very important hesed project.  On Thanksgiving morning, after Rabbi Soloveichik’s special Thanksgiving address, we will pack hundreds of meals for hungry New Yorkers.

Chatham Square Cemetery

The oldest of our extant cemeteries is known as the Chatham Square Cemetery.  It is located in Chinatown at 55 St. James Place.  The land was originally purchased in 1682 by Joseph Bueno de Mesquita.
