The Portuguese Jewish Legacy

Explore the historical and cultural Jewish heritage of Portugal with Professor Jane Gerber, Director of the Institute for Sephardic Studies at the City University of NY, and Professor Paulo Mendes Pinto, from Lisbon University and Coordinator of the Alberto Benveniste Sephardic Studies Department.

  

An invite-only pre-reception with Portuguese wine and food will be held at 6:00 pm, followed by evening services at 6:45 pm.  All are welcome to services. A historical tour of our synagogue will directly precede the event.

Chatham Square Cemetery

The oldest of our extant cemeteries is known as the Chatham Square Cemetery.  It is located in Chinatown at 55 St. James Place.  The land was originally purchased in 1682 by Joseph Bueno de Mesquita.
